Jean Baptiste Vuillaume, Paris, 1829

Jean Baptiste Vuillaume and his workshop made many instruments on a Stradivari model, including numerous cellos.

This early cello, from 1829, was made before the larger workshop was active and is therefore undoubtedly Vuillaume’s personal work. As such, it reflects the style of earlier French makers, such as Gand “père.” Like most Vuillaumes, it has a clear, responsive sound that is robust and full.
